About Us - Jeremy’s Story
Growing up, Jeremy realized that teammates on his basketball team all came from different backgrounds. In middle school, Jeremy picked up his teammate for a basketball game, and his friend said he hadn’t slept all night. Jeremy learned that there were gunshots in the middle of the night, that kept his teammate up.
In high school, Jeremy worked in the same neighborhood over the summer. He decided then that if he ever had the opportunity, he would make serving underprivileged youth a core part of his life.
In February 2012, two years after going undrafted in the NBA Draft, Jeremy’s performance for the New York Knicks, commonly known as “Linsanity,” made him an overnight sensation. Lin scored a historic 136 points in his first five career starts. Lin has played with the Warriors, Knicks, Rockets, Lakers, Hornets, Nets, Hawks, Raptors and the Beijing Ducks.
Jeremy’s story is a testament to the power of opportunity. After going undrafted and being cut by multiple teams, his career is proof that the last man off the bench might be a star waiting to shine. Whether this is on a basketball court or in communities throughout the world, Jeremy believes that youth and organizations are able to make a difference if given a chance.
The Jeremy Lin Foundation was established in 2011 and launched at NBA All-Star 2013 with “The Making a Difference Project.” Lin's recent initiative, "Be The Light," donated a total of $1.4 million to COVID relief efforts and helped raise greater awareness of increasing anti-Asian racism during the pandemic.
As one of the few Asian American professional basketball players, Lin has been passionate about speaking out about being AAPI and the importance of representation and empowerment in the APPI community.
